Embankment at Foxholes

(Click on image to view full-size version)

Originally this was the embankment of the Godley Junction to Apethorn railway. Since the line was closed and dismantled the route has become part of the Trans Pennine trail. What looks like a small stream at the bottom is in fact the muddy bridlepath section of the trail. Above the embankment is the bottom of an oak tree which in recent years has lost several branches, one of which can be seen strewn down the embankment.

See how the same scene looked in February 2012

For a full view of the tree and its location see Hyde Daily Photo.

  2. Interesting spot -- I imagine the shade from that tree would be welcome when it is summer -- it's lovely this time of year as well.

  3. Trees are such fascinating things, how they survive, no matter what happens around them. Thanks for the little history of the photo.

  4. Lovely tree! So, this is a horse trail? I guess the horses would not mind walking in the stream. Have a happy Sunday!
